Weight-Loss "Coach" Works on a PC

DANBURY, Conn. (June 4, 2004)—DietPower, Inc., has released a "coach" for the personal computer that can guarantee reaching a goal weight on a target date without giving up favorite foods. The software works by itself or with Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, American Heart Association, or any other diet. A free 15-day trial is available on a CD or by downloading from www.dietpower.com.

"The only way to lose weight permanently is to eat a little less than your body needs," says Terry Dunkle, company founder and CEO. "We all know this. The problem is, it's hard to be honest with ourselves. DietPower lets you eat with your eyes open."

DietPower's Personal Nutrition Coach reveals your intake of 33 nutrients as you log your meals. Because it continually adjusts your calorie budget as it "learns" your metabolism, you cannot fail to meet your goal if you stick to your budget. The coach also recommends foods you like that will balance your nutrient intake, improving your odds against heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other killers. It even alerts you when you aren't drinking enough water. (Most people don't.)

The nutrition coach is one of many new features in DietPower 4.0, the latest version of a program that began in 1988 when Dunkle was a Reader's Digest editor looking for a quicker way to count calories. "It's a lot smarter today," he says. The $49.99 program also:

  • Gives you a Nutrition Quotient (NQ) showing how intelligent an eater you've been lately.
  • Logs a meal in less than a minute, and fills in data when you're too busy to log.
  • Analyzes nutrients in 11,000 foods and recipes (including your own).
  • Tracks calories burned in 1000 kinds of exercise.
  • Delivers daily advice and inspiration, tailored to your goals.
  • Brings you weekly nutrition news from the Web, rated for reliability.

DietPower's scientific advisors include Ann Coulston, past president of the American Dietetic Association; Robert Epstein, founder of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies; and Barry Franklin, former president of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Version 4.0 requires Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, or XP; eight megabytes of memory; and 30 megabytes of disk space. The program comes with a one-year money-back guarantee.

A free 15-day trial of the the latest version of DietPower is available on a CD-ROM or by downloading from www.dietpower.com, where users can also order a $49.99 "unlock code" that makes the program work permanently. For further information, visit www.dietpower.com/who_we_are/contact_us.php.
